Fire Protection & Plan

Policy Statement

It is the policy of Frank Lumber to promote fire prevention and to suppress all fires occurring on or adjacent to our operations and timberlands regardless of hour, or circumstance, or ownership of land involved.  Upon detection, immediate action on all fires is required.  We, and all contractors, are to cooperate fully with State, Districts, Federal Agencies, Associations and adjacent landowners in suppression efforts.  Proactive observance of tool and equipment requirements, industrial fire precaution levels and watchman services on active operations or unreleased slash areas are strenuously required.

Fire Protection

Fire Season is defined as “the season when a fire hazard exists as declared by the Oregon Department of Forestry”.  In the North Cascade District, Fire Season usually begins in late June or early July and usually ends in mid to late October, depending on the severity of the weather.

Approximately 20 seasonal firefighters staff eight wildland engines on the North Cascade District, and are tracked by a Forest Communications Dispatcher.  District personnel work closely with partners such as the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and rural fire districts to combine fire suppression efforts, as well as engaging in joint training opportunities.
